And we're off...

Here is the Burick family, minus one — our son Vlad will be joining us sometime in the next few months from Eastern Europe. We are about a month into the process of bringing him home to meet his brother Syrus, and we can’t wait!

We are adopting "Jessie 23". We named her Sarah, and are finishing up the home study process. Looking forward to following along on your journey:)

2-27-2009 Syrus is born

6-2009 Found Reece's Rainbow and saw Vlad

8-3-2010 Knew Vlad was our son!

8-7-2010 Committed to Vlad with Reece's Rainbow

8-16-2010 Met with agency to start homestudy

8-17-2010 Started all the paperwork and physicals

9-1-2010 Sent first packet to be apostilled

9-2-2010 Background checks and fingerprinting

9-7-2010 Turned in two packets to the homestudy agency AND express shipped our first packet to Vlad's country!

9-10-2010 Packet 1 has been delivered!! Faxed Packet 3 for approval.

9-13-2010 Ordered birth and marriage certificates

9-14-2010 Homestudy appointment

9-16-2010 Packet 3 approved!

9-20-2010 Homestudy appointment

9-21-2010 Sent out background check requests for every state lived in by the six adults living in our house! Sent 17 documents to be apostilled for our dossier. And MOST importantly, sent a blanket to Vlad with his little name embroidered on it.

9-27-2010 Finished 8 hours of adoption training courses

9-28-2010 Homestudy appointment

10-2-2010 Wrote request for State Police Clearance; Filled out Passport Application for Syrus; Filled out I-600a Immigration Application; Composed fundraising letter

10-4-2010 LAST HOMESTUDY APPOINTMENT!!!

10-5-2010 Mailed State Police Clearance request

10-6-2010 Called state offices about out-of-state clearances.

10-9-2010 Applied for Sy's Passport

10-13-2010 Received PA, IN, and MA clearances

10-18-2010 Received NY clearance and attended last adoption class

10-19-2010 Homestudy sent to DCFS for approval

10-22-2010 Received Sy's Passport -- he is official!

10-26-2010 Received State Police Clearance letters

11-4-2010 Approved by DCFS

11-9-2010 Sent I-600A Application to Immigration

11-15-2010 Vlad got his blanket :)

11-20-2010 Received confirmation that our immigration application is being processed

11-30-2010 Spoke to USCIS -- received fingerprinting date!

12-10-2010 Faxed 75 pages for approval

12-20-2010 Almost all documents approved!

12-22-2010 USCIS fingerprinting appointment

12-28-2010 USCIS fingerprinting for other four adults in our home :)

1-8-2011 Received notice that I have to be fingerprinted AGAIN and the appointment isn't until 1-31-2011

1-11-2011 Walked in and got fingerprinted! Woohoo!

1-13-2011 Immigration Officer emailed that we are approved!

1-14-2011 Got entire dossier apostilled -- just waiting on the I-171h approval from immigration to arrive!

1-19-2011 Received the I-171h form!! Awwww yeah!! I got my golden ticket, baby! :)

1-21-2011 MAILED THE DOSSIER TO VLAD'S COUNTRY!

1-24-2011 Dossier arrived in country

2-10-2011 DOSSER SUBMITTED!

2-23-2011 Received our travel date -- we have to be in Vlad's country for our first appointment on Monday, March 14th!!

3-12-2011 Arrived in Vlad's country

3-14-2011 SDA Appointment

3-16-2011 Met Vlad!

4-1-2011 We are named Vlad's parents in court!

4-12-2011 The ten day wait is over

4-16-2011 GOTCHA DAY!

4-19 and 4-20-2011 Embassy Appointments

4-21-2011 Vlad arrives in the USA
